David Smith, M.D. is the Chair of the NC Psychoanalytic Foundation. He has a Private Practice in Chapel Hill, NC. He also serves on the board of the NC Psychoanalytic Society. He supervises residents in both UNC and Duke Univ. Dept. of Psychiatry as well as the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas and individuals at the Lucy Daniels Center. Dr. Smith joined the board in 2008.
Harold Kudler, M.D.
Past Chair, Psychiatrist, Duke University Medical Center
and Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center
Harold Kudler, M.D. is the Chief Consultant for Mental Health at the Veterans Affairs Central Office in Washington, D.C. He is the Past Chair of the NC Psychoanalytic Foundation and also previously served as the Development Chair. Prior to his current position in Washington D.C., Dr. Kudler was the Associate Director of the Veterans Affairs Mid-Atlantic Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center for Deployment Mental Health as well as an associate professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke University. He is an Advanced Candidate in both the Adult and Child programs of the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas. He was a founding member of the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center of North Carolina and is the recipient of multiple awards for teaching including the American Psychoanalytic Association’s Edith Sabshin Award for Excellence in Psychoanalytic Teaching. He has also been the Co-Chair of the North Carolina Governor’s Focus on Returning Service Members, Veterans and their Families.
Through Dr. Kudler’s efforts, the North Carolina Psychoanalytic Foundation has helped shape Sesame Street Workshop’s Talk, Listen, Connect programs which are aimed at assisting military children and their families.
Jeffrey Chambers, MD
Psychiatrist and Psychoanalyst
Jeffrey Chambers, M.D. is a psychoanalyst and psychiatrist who practices in Durham and Raleigh. He is a graduate of the Psychoanalytic Institute of the Carolinas (PIC*), The University of Michigan Medical School, and the Duke University Psychiatry residency. He has previously served as the Chairman of the NC Psychoanalytic Foundation. Dr. Chambers also is Past President of the NC Coalition of Mental Health Professionals and Consumers and a current member of the NC Psychoanalytic Society. He and his wife Cheryl are parents of two young adults, Carissa and J.J.
Treasurer, Real Estate Developer, Carolina Services and Real Estate
Bill Jackson has been on the NC Psychoanalytic Foundation Board of Directors since January 1999 and is the Treasurer. He has served as Chair of the Long-range Planning Committee since 2000, was Chair of the Fundraising Committee from 2000 until 2003 of which he participates as a committee member. Mr. Jackson is a commercial real estate developer and principal of Carolina Services and Real Estate.
James Peacock, Ph.D.

James Peacock, Ph.D. has been a member of the board since 2003. Dr. Peacock brings his vast knowledge of humankind and participates regularly in the Psychoanalysis and Literature Study Group. As the Kenan Professor of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences and former president of the American Anthropological Association, Professor Peacock specializes in anthropology of religion. He has studied both Southeast Asia and the Southeastern United States. “Anthropologists have spent a hundred years trying to develop a broad view of humankind, uncovering special values and understandings. I invite everyone to become an anthropologist.”
A. Renee Prillaman, Ph.D.
Acting Principal/Educator, Carolina Friends School
Renee Prillaman, Ph.D. is the Acting Principal at Carolina Friends School and an adjunct Professor of the Practice in the Program in Education at Duke University. Renee received her Ph.D in Curriculum and Instruction at UNC Chapel Hill. She has taught at the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle School levels. She has served on a number of boards including The Orange County Partnership for Children and Childcare Networks. Dr. Prillaman is the Past Chair of the Peaceful Schools NC committee, has implemented CAPSLE (Create a Peaceful School Learning Environment) at the Carolina Friends Middle School, and serves as the Site Liaison to the Peaceful Schools NC pilot site at Central Park School in Durham, NC.

Aaron Swart, M.S.W. joined the board in 2013. Aaron is passionate about personal branding. He holds a BS degree in Business Management from North Carolina State University, with a concentration in Human Resource Management and a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a concentration in Management and Community Practice. With 15+ years’ experience in sales, marketing, and association management, Aaron has a hunger to learn, is a strategic innovator and is a stellar communicator. Friends and clients who know Aaron well say he is both discerning and strategic when approaching a problem to be solved, and that he brings out the best in others. Aaron enjoys hiking, the latest movies, considers himself a “foodie”, and loves spending time with his nearly 11-year-old son Noah and his Siberian Husky, Tyson “Crush”.

Kerry Waite, M.S., C.H.E.S. joined the NC Psychoanalytic Foundation in 2010. She is the Administrative Director of the NC Psychoanalytic Foundation. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and serves as a volunteer community health educator. She has Masters degrees in Health and Wellness Education and in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences from Virginia Tech and is a licensed Realtor® with Keller Williams Preferred. Ms. Waite is married with two children. She enjoys dancing with the Apple Chill Cloggers, spending time with her family, traveling, and helping to support happy and healthy families.
