In 2007, generous support from the Friends
of NCPF was used to expand our outreach in the community and to raise awareness
about the many psychoanalytic resources - education, training and therapy -
available in our community. Our outreach activities included:
Giving a grant to the NC Psychoanalytic Societyfor its first annual Psychoanalytic Academic
Lecture with Professor Lilian Furst, and helping to promote the program within
the academic community. More than 20 academicians and students from diverse
backgrounds attended a psychoanalytic program for the first time.
Increasing the number of organizations,
agencies and individuals across North Carolina and beyond receiving NCPF
eBulletins, our primary vehicle for promoting psychoanalytic programs and
events. This effort has helped to increase the number of professionals and
trainees attending psychoanalytic programs as well as the number of students
taking courses in the psychoanalytic training programs. It has also led to
numerous requests to bring our psychoanalytic programs to other parts of the
state, a goal of the NCPF.
Fielding a team at the Walk for Hope that raised more than $1,400 to support research
into mental illness and distributing information packets to hundreds of
walkers.
Sponsoring an announcement on WUNC-FM that directly led to new Friends of NCPF members joining our ranks, attending our annual
public lecture and a first-ever Friday night poetry reading with our keynote
speaker.
Sponsoring"Outside the Lines", a documentary soon to air on UNC-TV about the
stigma of living with mental illness. The NCPF will use the documentary for
community outreach and discussion of the role of psychoanalytic psychotherapy in
treating mental illness.
Joining the Lucy Daniels Foundation and the NC Psychoanalytic Society in launching an
ad campaign to publicize the MindPlay discussion series at Playmakers Repertory Company, leading to an increase in participation in these after-the-show discussions led
by members of the psychoanalytic community.
Attending and distributing literature on
psychoanalytic psychotherapy treatment and education to hundreds of participants
at an NC State University symposium for family members of deployed National Guard and
the mental health professionals working with and supporting
them.
Thank you to all the Friends of
NCPF for making this public awareness campaign a
success!
